Canada: Latest Range of Majestic Polar Bears Gold and Silver Premium Bullion Coins Now Available

Gold 1/10^th ounce and silver one ounce coins are specially selected and presented in a practical format designed for gift-giving occasions throughout the year. The special packaging is suitable for an assortment of anniversaries and events and which are available directly from the Royal Canadian Mint. The Polar Bearrange introduced last year is a premium bullion product which offers a popular theme for Canadian coinage and an appropriate and memorable gift to mark special moments and family milestones. 

Each year, the reverse side will feature new designs focusing on Polar bears which are the largest land carnivore, but yet they are surprisingly tiny and helpless at birth. Blind, toothless, and covered in a very fine fur that makes them look hairless, new-born cubs only measure about 30 centimetres or 11 inches long and weigh less than a kilogram. Cubs are born during a mother polar bear’s hibernation and grow rapidly during the first months, receiving nourishment during this time. When mother and cub emerges from hibernation, a cub - sometimes more than one will usually stay by their mother’s side for two to three years. After reaching maturity, their instinct is to wander and claim territory for themselves, often relying on ice flows to take them further afield. Canada, as a country with vast amounts of coastline in the Arctic is home to many polar bears who settle in areas where the seal population is substantial as this animal is a polar bear’s main source of food.

Designed by Canadian artist W. Allan Hancock, his work depicts both a polar bear (Ursus maritimus) mother and her almost independent cub nuzzling in their Arctic habitat. The scene is set against vivid radial lines that create a dramatic sunburst finish as well as a security feature. The reverse also includes the coin’s purity 9999 and weight 1 OZ (gold and silver) placed above the design and along the rim. The text CANADA and the year of issue 2024 are shown below the primary design along the lower edge. The polar bear paw prints on each coin’s reverse are a collection-wide design feature and are exclusive to this line of Premium Bullion coins. The obverse side includes the effigy of HM King Charles III designed by Canadian artist Steven Rosati and depicts the King facing to the left surrounded by the legend CHARLES III D G REX. The denomination 5 DOLLARS is placed below the King’s likeness on both metals.
